Create a password for a WinXP computer
Open the control panel: Start, Control Panel
Select User Accounts
Pick the account to change, then click “Create a Password”
You may also want to create a password reset disk incase you forget your password.
Create a Password Reset Disk
To create a password reset disk, use the forgotten Password wizard. This procedure is only for non-domain computers. See below to get directions for a computer that is on a domain.
Start by choosing a location for your password reset. It can be a floppy, flash, or external hard drive. Insert your formatted media into the drive.
Open the control panel: Start, Control Panel
Select User Accounts
Pick the account to change
Under Related Tasks, click “Prevent A Forgotten Password”
Read the information, then click Next
Enter password for this account or leave it blank if no password is currently associated with the account.
Click Next
Label disk “password Reset”
If you forget your password, WinXP will give you the option to use your password reset disk.
